Invitation to Altar Server Ministry

Altar Servers are part of a distinguished group of
young people in our parish who have answered a
special call to ministry. As a St. John's Altar Server,
you serve as a liturgical minister, assisting with vital
tasks during our liturgies—most importantly during
the celebration of the Eucharist at Mass.
By choosing to serve, you will learn new terminology and perform specific duties that support our communal prayer. It is a significant way to serve God and our parish family.
Requirements for Service
To be eligible for this ministry, interested individuals must:
- Be 10 years of age or older and entering 5th through 12th grade.
- Have already received First Holy Communion.
- Demonstrate proper reverence, including how to genuflect and make
- the Sign of the Cross.
- Attend Mass regularly.
- Be a registered member of St. John the Baptist Church or a student at DeSales Catholic School.
- Possess a sincere desire to serve at the Altar of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Ministry of the Lector

A Lector is appointed to proclaim the Word of
God within the liturgical assembly. This sacred
duty includes reading lessons from the Old and New Testaments (excluding the Gospel) during Mass and other celebrations.
Beyond the readings, Lectors may recite the psalms, present the intentions for general intercessions, and provide direction to the congregation in song.
Those in this ministry also assume the responsibility of instructing fellow parishioners who are called to read the Scriptures.

Bringing richness to the Mass through song and response.
Music is a joyful form of prayer that gives glory to God and allows the parishioners of St. John the Baptist Church to experience Him through the beauty of sacred song.
